Pilot Electro Technical Officer (ETO) Cadet Training Programme
We are partnering with two esteemed maritime training institutes in the Philippines: United Marine Training Centre (UMTC) in Manila and GigaMare in Subic Bay. These institutes are renowned for their excellent facilities, experienced instructors, and a strong track record of producing high-quality ETOs.
Programme Overview:
- Duration: 4.5-month academic semester followed by a minimum of 8 months onboard training.
- Eligibility: Electrical Engineering graduates or those with degrees in related fields such as Electronics and Communications Engineering, or Industrial Technology with a major in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation.
- Sponsorship: All cadets will be sponsored on day one by an IMEC Member participating in the programme.
Training Details:
- Academic Training: The course includes both theoretical and practical elements, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the ETO role.
- Onboard Training: Cadets will complete a Training Record Book (TRB) during their shipboard training.

- August 2025: 12 ETO Cadets at UMTC
IMEC is committed to supporting the maritime industry’s evolving needs by heavily subsidizing the training costs for up to 84 ETO cadets over the next 18 months. This initiative is a response to significant demand from our members and the increasing electrical complexity of modern vessels.
